Independent Component 2

LITERAL
A. I, Stephany Huynh, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.
B. Paul Huang
C. 30 hour log
D. During the process of completing the 30 hours of my independent component, Paul Huang helped me review different advertisements and break down the thought process of it. He basically taught me skills that helped me improve the way I look at designs.

INTERPRETIVE
Paul and I spent an hour every Friday discussing about what worked and what didn't in different advertisements that we find online. Below are some of the websites where we fount the advertisements that we discussed about throughout the 30 hours.

APPLIED
Paul helped me get to all my answers for my EQ. He was the one that sparked the ideas for the answers during our sessions. An example would be during my interview with him, he helped me figure out my first answer. I asked him how a designer could create a design that appeals to everyone and he explained that they can't. He continued and said that designers focus on specific groups to make sure that advertisement satisfies their needs as opposed to making an advertisement that is trying to satisfy everyone but has conflicting ideas. And that is how I got my first answer.

Independent Component 2 Plan Approval

1. I plan on meeting with Paul every Friday. He will help me analyze advertisements and help me with creating my own advertisements and hopefully help me get a better understanding of the graphic design of advertisements and connecting it to teens.
2. Since I plan on meeting up with Paul every Friday for about an hour or two, I plan on finishing by April or so.
3. As I said before, Paul will be helping me get a better understanding about advertisements and its graphic design and connecting it to teens.

Independent Component

Literal:

  • I, Stephany Huynh, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work
  • Paul Huang
  • *See right hand side of blog*
  • For the independent component, I'm gathering a portfolio to submit to CSU's and UC's as a requirement for admissions.
Interpretive:
  • For my independent component, I had a variety of artwork that I have completed to add into my portfolio. The portfolio requirements allowed me to do drawings, paintings, photography, and basically any form of art that would qualify as a branch of graphic design or is related to graphic design.

Here are some pieces that I've completed and some that I am in the process of completing...

Applied:

  • Because I am using this component as my portfolio for graphic design majors in different schools, I feel like it helped me in the sense of understanding the pressure of time management (to get it done on time), and understanding what the schools want (their requirements, similar to how customers would want the product to look a certain way), and just overall improve my artistic skills.

Blog 10: Senior Project Update

1. For my independent component, I am putting together a portfolio that will also be submitted to art schools. I am going to have Paul give critique my work so that I have a guidance.

2. A significant piece of research that I've recently reviewed is the book What is Graphic Design? by Quentin Newark.

Blog7: Independent Component 1 Plan Approval

1. Write a description of what you plan on doing for your independent study component.

  • I plan on taking an art class/ lesson. this class doesn't give grades but I know the art instructor/ owner of the place pretty well so she could give me feedback on what I did well and what I need to improve.

2. Describe in detail how you think your plan will meet the 30 hours work requirement.

  • I'm planning on going to the class every Saturday and hopefully several weekdays. I'll probably go for 2 hours every Saturday so after about 15 classes, I will have completed my 30 hours. And for the weekdays, those are the days that I will come in to get feedback from her.

3. How does your independent study component relate to your working EQ?

  • My EQ is "What is the best way to ensure a high quality outcome when creating an image?" This independent study component is relative because I feel like I need to be able to create a high quality piece of art with my own hands before I could create it on the computer. I also think that this will help me with my creativity which is essential when it comes to graphic design.
